Yes, it’s that time of year and yes, you heard me right, they really do make me feel like a failure… that’s why I don’t make New Years Resolutions.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t believe that failing makes you a failure, I believe that failing is an important key to learing.
But it’s just how that word “Resolution” affects me and so many others.
Who hasn’t gone into the New Year thinking
“I’ll lose 10 kgs”
“I’ll go to the Gym twice a week”
“I’ll read more books” (this one is actually one I CAN do)
“I’ll keep a journal” (yeah right)
and the list goes on… and on… and I hear you ask
So what do you do?
You can’t be serious…
You’ve got it all wrong
First I don’t use that “R” word anymore, never.
I set Goals
Oh boy, here she goes
Yes I can hear you now, I say the SAME thing.
BUT we all have those massive big scary goals that we have either in the back of our mind or written down somewhere we can’t see them.
Some might even make themselves a “Vision Board”
And yes, I have big scary goals, some of them I am too scared to even write down.
BUT they are there, and it’s important to have them without letting them get in the way of life.
So what do I do then?
I make habits happen instead.
How do you eat an elephant
One bite at a time
It really is that simple.
One big scary goal is made up of lots of little baby steps.
I don’t have a magic formula
I’m not perfect
I regularly “fail” to achieve even some of the baby steps
I regularly “fail” to achieve the big scary goals
I keep eating one bite at a time
I am going to continue this theme in a part 2 so I don’t bore you to tears all in one go, I am going to share some of MY big scary goals and the habits that I work on as my “bites”
Hopefully you might relate to some of them
Please comment below and let me know you are out there and if you have anything to share please do.
I can’t wait to share Part 2 with you within the next week.
